Catherine Nutt Stevens

Catherine Nutt Stevens, 52, of Marlin, entered into rest on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005. Services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005 at Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alan Six officiating. Burial followed in the Hillcrest Cemetery.

Catherine was born Aug. 16, 1952 in Marlin to Harlan and Frances Sowders Nutt. She was a homemaker and also worked for Texas Department of Corrections for 2 years. She was a member of the Trinity Memorial Baptist Church and a life long resident of Marlin.

She loved being with her family and her grandchildren were the light of her life. A son, Daniel Harlan Stevens in 1971, preceded Catherine in death.

Survivors include her daughter, Kristie Stevens of Huntsville, Texas; parents: Harlan and Frances Nutt of Marlin; sisters, Linda Kay Scaman, Sandra Beth Berry and Lana Balzrette, all of Marlin; grandsons, Zachery Bonnier and Joseph Chamrad; numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Danny Nutt, Craig Rodriguez, Michael Stott, David Nutt Jr., Pete Nehring, Ed Nehring Jr., Derek Nutt, and Garland Nutt.

Honorary pallbearer was Randy Grimes.

Sowders, James

JAMES SOWDERS
Nov. 9, 1948 – June 15, 2006

James W. Sowders, 57, of Marlin, entered into rest on Thursday, June 15, 2006. Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alan Six officiating. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery.

James was born on November 9, 1948 in Falls County to Walter and Nettie Hartman Sowders. He was a life long resident of the Marlin area and at the time of his death employed by the Calpine Corp. in Fairfield, Texas as an electrician. He was a member of the Trinity Memorial Baptist Church in Marlin and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He loved to fish and watch his children play baseball. James will missed by all who knew him and by all whose lives he touched.

Survivors include his wife, Kim Sowders of Marlin; Sons, Dustin Ray Sowders, Dakoka James Sowders, Drake Colby Sowders, all of Marlin; daughter, Darrah Jo Sowders of Marlin; mother, Nettie Sowders of Marlin; brother, Edward Sowders of Marlin.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Lewis, Rene Pena, Dale Hammans, Robert Latham, Kelly Ballew and Jim Webb.

Honorary pallbearers will be his co-workers at Calpine Corp.

Adams Funeral Home in Marlin is in charge of arrangements.

Meece, Tommy Joe

June 4, 1951 – March 17, 2006

Tommy Joe Meece, 54, of Marlin, entered into rest on Friday, March 17, 2006. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2006 at Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Fulton officiating. Mr. Meece’s ashes were buried in the Calvary Cemetery on his family’s lot.

Tommy was born June 4, 1951 in Hearne to George and Hazel Loggins Meece. He was a Baptist, a life long resident of the Marlin, Falls County area, served in law enforcement and was an entrepreneur. He loved working with wood, hunting, fishing and boating.

Survivors include his son, Brad Meece and wife Dedra of Riesel; daughter, April Meece of Marlin; mother, Hazel Foster of Killeen; friend and mother of his children, Ilynn Grantham of Marlin; brother, Jack Meece of Killeen; sisters, Judy Harvey of Marlin, Carolyn Watkins of Waco, Peggy Atkins of Lott, Susan Kirby of Killeen; granddaughter, Kailey Meece of Riesel; and numerous cousins.

Honorary pallbearers were Ronnie Atkins, Russell Kirby, Derek Slafka, Cody Truett, Jason Ford and Craig Ray.

Charles Blann
July 16, 1949 – July 2, 2009

Charles Howard Blann, age 59, of Riesel, entered into rest on Thursday, July 2, 2009.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2009 at Perry United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ike Ledger officiating.

Burial followed in the Perry Methodist Cemetery. The family received friends on Sunday from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home.

Charles was born July 16, 1949 in Marlin to Howard and Naomi Ruth Wilson Blann. He worked at TYMCO as a welder for over 20 years. He graduated from Marlin High School and TSTC Welding, Heating and Air Conditioning School. He loved watching T.V. westerns. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and an uncle.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Blann of Riesel; sons, James Blann and his wife Lori of Riesel, Ricky Blann of Riesel; brother, Clarence Blann and his wife Leslie, Steve Blann and his wife Dawn, Timothy Blann; sister, Diane Blann; grandchildren, Lisa, Stacy and Alec

Pallbearers were Ebe Pursche, Larry Grote, Larry Schroeder, Ron Oden, Kevin Pursche and Albert Rut.

Mena, Pauline C. (Gonzales)

Pauline C. Mena, 44, of Marlin, entered into rest Monday, Jan. 17, 2005. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 21, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marlin with Rev. Christopher Ferrer as celebrant. Burial followed in the Hillcrest Cemetery. A Rosary was recited on Thursday at 7 P.M. at Adams Chapel, with family visitation before and after the rosary.

Pauline was born October 11, 1960 in Marlin. She was a computer programmer and PEIMS coordinator for the Marlin ISD, where she had served for 11 years. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and a life long resident of Marlin. She loved her flowers, yard work and decorating for holidays. Her world revolved around her husband, children and her grand baby. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Ms. Mena was preceded in death by her step-father Raymond Gonzales.

Paulne is survived by her husband, Fernando Mena of Marlin; son, Albert Isiah Mena of Marlin; two daughters, Jennifer Ashley Mena of Marlin, and Lupe LaShael Mena of Waco; granddaughter, Desiree Renee Salas of Waco; mother, Lupe Gonzales of Marlin; two brothers, Robert Hernandez of Marlin, and Johnny Rodriguez of Waco; two sisters, Dora Garcia of Marlin, and Martha Welch of Marlin; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mark Null, 48, of Austin entered into rest, Monday, June 28, at his residence. Graveside funeral services were held Thursday, July 1, at 2:00 pm at Kosse City Cemetery in Kosse.

Mr. Null was born on Nov. 29, 1955 to Virgil Null and Katy Alford Null in Marlin, Texas. He grew up in Marlin and graduated from Marlin High School. He served his country for 11 years in the United States Navy.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Virgil.

He is survived by his mother, Katy Null of Austin.

Arrangements were under the direction of Adam’s Funeral Home, 129 Coleman, Marlin, Texas.

Adams Funeral Home of Marlin reports the death of Richard Hopcus, 53, of Marlin. He entered into rest Feb. 26, 2004. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Richard was born June 29, 1950 in Marlin to Floyd and Rose Muzyka Hopcus. He was a retired maintenance worker, a member of the Catholic Church and a life-long resident of Marlin.

Survivors include sisters, JoAnn Sapp, Lott; Margaret Salsiccia, Marlin; Betty Speer, Franklin; Mary Devine, Eunice, LA; brothers Clifton Hopcus and Leon Hopcus, Hearne; Floyd Hopcus, Jr., Cornith, TX.
